K – To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

This YA-retelling of the Little Mermaid made it to my favorite books of 2018.

I’m going to forwarn you though, I’ve seen time and time reviews saying how this book dissapointed them because it’s pitched as a dark retelling of The Little Mermaid and that’s not true. It’s a darkER retelling, but the story itself isn’t super dark. I honestly think if you go into this keeping that in mind, you’ll have an awesome time.

I ended up giving this book 5 stars because, for starters, this is one of the best mermaids books I’ve read. The romance is an enemies-to-lovers that was excelently done, since it takes its time to develop and it never feels forced. The main character was witty and sharp and the chemistry she had with the love interest was off the charts. I cannot recommend it enough.

L – The Less than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal by E. K. Weaver

This here is my all time favorite graphic-novel. Period. 

And I can’t belieive I had never mentioned it on my blog until today. You follow Amal on his way to his sister’s graduation and is trying to come to terms with the fact that his very consevative father has disowned him when he told him that he has just broken off his arrange marriage because he’s gay.

On this rode trip he meets TJ and they make an arrangement. He drives, TJ pays… and there is no way you can anticipate what will happen in this Less than Epic adventure.

M –  Misfit City by Kirsten Smith

This was part of my pirate project that I had going on last year, and it was one of the best stories I found. It’s an all female crew modern pirate story very, very similar to The Goonies and I can’t believe more people aren’t reading this masterpiece.

Not only was this funny, cute, fast-paced and incredible, it was also super diverse with a fat MC, a POC and a lesbian couple. This is amazing.

 

N – No Eres lo que Busco by Laura Mavor

This is a Spanish thriller I read two years ago, and to this day it’s still one of my favorites. It takes place in a small village of Spain and the atmosphere, plot and characters were so well done.

The officer we’re following is the funniest, kindest most awesome woman in the world and I would gladly read more from her perspective. I’m still waiting for the author to announce another story!

O – The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

This amazing horror was also one of the best stories I read last year. I LOVE horror stories, but I don’t tend to read them, more watch them on TV. However, this is one I’ll never be able to forget.

Not only does Neil Gaiman write flawlessly, he’s also so creative and imaginative and this story was spooooooooky.

Highly recommend
