N.E.W.T.s TBR

Hi everyone!

The NEWTs readathon is a magical readathon inspired by the exams that take place in the Harry Potter Universe. It is created and hosted by the amazing Book Roast and this will be the last year that they are taking place since everything that J.K Rowling has been doing and saying lately. I want to state that I do not support her and this will be the last time I mention HP content on my blog.

Since the rules can be bend a little this time around, I’ll dedicate the month of September to complete the challenges for the Animagus course.

Today I’m going to be sharing with your guys my August TBR, since I’m going to dedicate the entire month to reading the challenges from the NEWTS Readathon to become a Librarian!

The NEWTs are:

  • O in Ancient Runes:
  • E in Defense Againts the Dark Arts
  • E in History of Magic

ANCIENT RUNES A: AUTHOR NAME STARTS WITH A B (FIRST OR LAST)

a quiet kind of thunderA Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard

This is a YA-contemporary that has a protagonist with selective mutism and severe anxiety, as well as a love interest that is deaf. I believe our MC is new to the school and they partner her with the love interest so that they can communicate using sing language. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this author’s stories and it’s about time I read something from her!

ANCIENT RUNES E: READ A CLASSIC

the glass castleThe Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls

I know this isn’t technically a classic, I believe it’s non-fiction, HOWEVER, I just really don’t like classics. The few I’ve read have been too dense and hard and I just don’t understand them nor do I have any interest in reading them, so this is the closest thing on my TBR that I could find to a classic. My uncle is always talking about this book and urging me to read it, he says it should be mandatory reading and so I’m gonna take that as a fit for this prompt.

ANCIENT RUNES O: READ A ROMANCE

Get a life, Chloe Brown

Get A Life, Chloe Brown (The Brown Sisters #1) by Talia Hibbert

This is an adult, romance I’ve been meaning to read all year. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this story and I cannot wait to be swept by this couple. I know this has a Black protagonist that also has chronic illness. Can’t wait for this one.

DEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS A: READ A HORROR/THRILLER

the wife between usThe Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

This is an adult thriller that I’ve owned on my ebook for a couple of years know. I’ve read An Anonymous Girl by this author duo and I enjoyed it, but didn’t love it. However, I’ve heard this book was better liked by the community so I’m excited to get to it. All I know is that this is about a woman who got divorced and is now stalking the bride to be to her former ex-husband.

DEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS E: BOOKS WITH DEMONS OR WATER THEME

seafireSeafire (Seafire #1) by Natalie C. Parker

This is a YA, fantasy story about female pirates, so I’d say is pretty water themed. The synopsis is kind of vague, it just talks about a female crew who want revenge from a pirate who killed their families, Sounds good to me.

HISTORY OF MAGIC A: READ A HISTORICAL FICTION

The song of achillesThe Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

This is one of the few historical-fiction books that I have a feeling I’m going to fall head over heels in love with. All I know is that this is gay and it’s going to make me sob. This is also one of my Books to read in 2020, and I only have two more books on that list unread so I’m happy to be one step closer to completing the list.

HISTORY OF MAGIC: READ A BOOK WITH A MAINLY BLACK COVER

wilver in the wood

Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh

This is a fantasy novella that I know absolutely nothing about except the fact that it features an f-f couple and might have something to do with fae. I needed to throw something short in my TBR otherwise I don’t think I’d be able to complete all of the prompts.

This is actually very ambitious for me since I tend to read 5 books in a month and here I have 7, but I also think it’s not an unachievable challenge.

Are you guys participating? What would be your career choice? Let me know!

Until next time,

Leyre

  1. Annie says:

Ahh I just read A Quiet Kind of Thunder this summer! I think I read The Glass Castle two years ago, but I’m not sure. And I haven’t read The Song of Achilles, but I read Madeline Miller’s other book, Circe, and I loved how she retold the Greek myth in that one.
